During almost every skincare consultation I tell my clients 'knowledge is power.' Now yes, it's unrealistic to think that client's will understand product ingredients as in depth as me, a licensed aesthetician, but there are things you can do to set your self up for success when considering new skincare products and lines.
Here are 3 simple tips:
1. Pretty isn't always better- I'd be lying if I said I didn't get star stuck strolling the Target skincare aisle. All the pretty packaging, glittery lettering and big buzz words like 'miracle eye cream' and 'pore vanisher' can even make even the most seasoned of estheticians look twice. Take away the fancy packaging and all you'll be left with is little to no results and a hefty charge on your Target credit card. These big box skincare companies distract consumers with fancy words and packaging to hide their their basic, lackluster results. Don't be fooled! I'll take boring packaging with great results over these lines any day!
2. Consider the Source- TikTok skincare is all the buzz lately. From DIY kitchen masks to taping potatoes to your face to treat acne (yes, someone actually did that and no it does not work.) Social Media and apps like TikTok have made it easy for almost anyone anywhere to share uninformed advice. When it comes to treating serious skin concerns like acne or scarring don't be fooled by the TikTok star with half a million followers. Trust your local esthetician and dermatologist. We have spent thousands of hours touching skin and treating skin concerns like acne, pigmentation and aging. It's hard to find TikTok stars with those kind of credentials. Consider the source and trust the professionals when it comes to something as important as skincare.
3. Google, Google, Google- I tell almost every new client 'Don't just take my word for it- google it.' Although I know what I'm telling my clients is accurate and truthful you're more invested in the things you take the time to research and look into yourself. Read the reviews, look at the before and afters, find out how long the company has been around. Use all these clues to tell you if this skincare line, beauty tool or skincare product may be a good fit for you. If all else fails revert back to tip #2.

This product is as close to getting magic in a jar as you can get! Maybe I’m a little biased but there’s a reason this product is one of SkinScript’s top sellers.
I get so many questions on LED light therapy. What is it? How does it work? And does it actually really work? Let’s break it down.
